MANILA, Philippines — Kianna Dy savored her first start in 641 days, helping PLDT win its first assignment in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Champions League.
In her first start since July 20, 2023, Dy scored four points as PLDT made quick work of the Queensland Pirates of Australia, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12, on Sunday at Philsports Arena.

“It feels good. We’ve been training with me starting, so it’s really nice to be back on the court again—especially playing alongside Wilma [Salas] and my teammates from PLDT,” said Dy in Filipino.
“Coming off an injury, you really have to get used to the court again. I’m super thankful to the coaching staff and my teammates for trusting me to start. Hopefully, I can keep this going,” she added.
Dy, who returned from a right knee injury in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, said she’s 85 percent recovered but still working her way to her top shape.

“I wouldn’t say I’m 100 percent yet. Of course, you always want to improve every day, right? I’m working on getting better than how I used to play. Every day is a chance to improve, and I’m continuing my rehab to avoid getting injured again,” she said.
The former La Salle star, who played in the Asian Games 2018 for the women’s national volleyball team and the 2022 Asian Club Championship, is also honored to represent the country once again with the High Speed Hitters.
“This is a great opportunity for us to gain experience heading into the next conferences. It’s good for everyone to get a feel of what it’s like playing against international teams,” Dy said.

Although she made her first start, Dy remained eager to keep on improving her game as PLDT battles Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima on Tuesday.
“I’ve really been focusing on building confidence and strengthening my connection with my teammates, especially since I’m not used to starting and it’s a new team for me. I came from a different team before, so it’s all about adjusting during training and building chemistry,” Dy said.
